Children with special needs CWSN face special challenges during humanitarian crises, from abandonment and neglect, to a lack of equal access to basic services and specially after armed conflicts have started in Syria, it became imperative for the humanitarian agencies to confirm its commitment to at least reduce the impact of the crisis on refugees, including persons with disabilities and specially the children.

According to a survey conducted by Gashbun NGO in the four camps (Domiz1&2,) and outside camps showed that there are more than (1300) CWSN 900 in Domiz1&2 camps, 300 in Domiz2, 250 in Bardarsh camp, 350 in Gawelan camp and more than 450 outside camps and they are living in difficult humanitarian conditions specially after have forcibly moved to camps as a result of human rights abuses, conflict and mass violence.

Comparing to 2014 survey done by Gashbun with the recent survey , the results showed that the number of CWSN has increased remarkably, at the beginning of 2021, Gashbun NGO interviewed more than 1500 families who have children with disabilities and assessed their needs, challenge facing and the access to their rights in the camps and outside camps in Duhok governorate in Kurdistan region, the assessment showed that the CWSN who settled in camps or outside were classified into physical, visual, and hearing disability, learning disorder, speech problem, epilepsy, mental disorder, autism, down syndrome, chronic diseases and other medical disorder, and according to the forms filled in by them or their parents\ caregivers, the children were often experienced difficulties in accessing required support, health services and medical assistance. they are not able to meet their needs or have equal access to their rights in health, services and education as their peers.
