
Gashbun’s (GBV) case management is a comprehensive approach to support women and girls at risk and survivors of gender-based violence in Duhok governorate. It involves assessing the survivor’s needs, providing moral, financial and emotional support, connecting them with appropriate services such as counseling, legal or medical care, and ensuring their safety. Gashbun’s Case manager play a crucial role in coordinating these services, empowering survivors, and facilitating their recovery. The focus is on a survivor-centered and trauma-informed approach to address the complex challenges associated with gender-based violence.
Since the beginning of 2017, Gashbun Center has opened its facility to address cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and support women and girls. The team developed a plan to target cases requiring support and protection through awareness sessions, visits, and coordination with other relevant actors in the field. Special courses for women and girls were initiated within Gashbun centers. Coordination with various security governmental departments like (Directory of Combating Violence against Women and Family DCVAW, the relevant offices in camps and in the provinces belong to DCVAW in Duhok governorate in addition to other relevant agencies (police, camp management, UN, Harikar NGO, Norwegian Refugee Council NRC). big number of cases, including refugees, internally displace people IDPs and Host Community, were received, encompassing physical violence, harassment, and threats. Follow-up is conducted through center visits, home visits, or communication based on the individuals’ sense of security. Information on GBV cases were recorded using confidential codes in specific forms, with written consent obtained. Each case was handled based on its situation and needs, either by referral to specialized centers or other appropriate services and/or measures. Through the referral pathway methodology , the cases are received during this period include some from Harikar, NGO which is funded by UNHCR, two from camp management, and others through awareness and community sessions and trainings being conducted at Gashbun centers on the other hand cases are referred to other services (legal, medicine. resettlement) to other relevant actors working in the field )Harrkar’s legal department for divorce proceedings, camp management for job opportunities, three to (NRC) for employment, to (Rayah Al Salam) for sheltering, and sanitary facilities, to( ASO NGO )for legal services, and to UN for resettlement outside Iraq travel procedures, and other UN-specific protection services.
Financial support is also been provided for the cases is cash assistant to cases for different purposes so as to address their specific needs. Additionally, small projects are initiated for of the cases. The ongoing efforts aim to find solutions, offering assistance to women and girls, ensuring better protection opportunities for them to live violence-free lives. The goal is to protect and empower women and girls to be self-reliant, defend their rights, and attain their rightful place in society.
